V40 question S40-V40

Hi, I was interested in buying a V40 and took a look at a used 2001. 27,000 miles, all options except leather, for $21,000. The price was fair but the people told me that the shelf in back of the rear seat is not removable so we walked away. Can someone tell me if this "shelf" is since I need to be able to put large things in the back.
