Voltage Regulator/Alternator replacement S70 1998

My '98 T5-M has some proiblems with it's charging system. I have a previous post below with my symptoms. The issue is as follows: The old (dead) battery was putting out 8 volts (why the car would not start) but the alternator, with the engine running, was charging the old battery with 13.8 volts.... After replacing the battery, there was 14 volts at the battery leads, but the alternator began putting out 18 volts or so to the new battery (I immediately shut off hte engine and disconnected the battery).

My question is this... I've decided that the problem is most likely the voltage regulator on the alternator, first, is this a correct assumption?

Second, I've seen online parts listing for the voltage regulator part at about 50 bucks (1/4 of the entire alternator online). Is there a (easy) way for me to replace just the voltage regulator without the entire alternator, they seem kinda like one unit?

Any assistance with this is GREATLY appreciated, I want to get my car back on the road as SOON as possible.

Thanks!
Scott Silverman
