850r turbo gage reading 850

I have a 97 850R wagon, automatic. When I do a full throttle acceleration to red line, the boost gage seems to surge higher while it is shifting from 1st to second. It seems like it is reading a higher boost pressure during changing gears. Is this normal or has anyone experienced this?
