OK, I think I figured out how the seat/mirror memory works with the key fobs, but I still get some strange behavior occasionally and I want to find out if it's operator error, a general bug or something specific to my XC.
As I understand it, in addition to the three seat memory locations (selected by the buttons on the side of the driver's seat and stored using the "MEM" button) there are also separate memories associated with each key fob.
The current position of the seat/mirrors (which is not necessarily related to any of the three memory locations selected by the seat buttons) is stored in a particular key fob memory location whenever you lock the car with that particular key fob--*provided* (here's the tricky part they don't tell you) that you have cycled the ignition.
If you don't move the ignition switch to some positon other than "off" and back again, the key fob memory will not change. I was trying to set my key fob memories without cycling the ignition and it was very confusing and frustrating.
My problem is, every so often, the seat will move to the proper positon, but the mirrors will not. They are not off a little, they are way off, as if they remained at my wife's memory setting rather than moving to mine. I usually find this out when I am merging onto a highway and suddenly realize I can't see anything in my mirrors. If I push my seat memory button, the mirrors will move to the proper position, while the seat reamains still, indicating to me that the seat *was* in the proper position.
Has anyone else experienced this problem--it seems like a software bug to me, but I haven't been able to determine what sequence of events causes it?
