Hello, all. I'm new to this message board, so I apologize in advance if the subject of 850's vs. S-70's has been posted to death already.
I own a 1981 240 with about 250,000 miles. It runs great and I love it, but I'm looking to update to a newer model that will do a little better in the mountains of Colorado. I've test driven the 850 Turbo and was very impressed with the power, to say the least. I've also heard good reports about the 850's reliability from my mechanics, posters on this board, etc. I know it won't be as long-lasting as the 240, but I feel like it will be a car I can keep for at least 7 or 8 years (assuming that I change the timing belt!!).
My question: until recently, I was pretty set on getting a 1997 850 turbo for my next car. Looking through the classifieds, however, I noticed that there are some 1998 S-70's for sale for only a couple thousand dollars more. Should I think about getting an S-70, as opposed to an 850? Could you kind folks give me a primer on how these 2 models differ in terms of performance & reliability? I get the impression from some of the comments on this board that the 850 might be a more reliable car.
(I'll post this on the 850 board to get comments from 850 owners, as well.)
Thanks!
