Need advice about fuel injector repair 850 1997

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to seek advice about Volvo repairs, but I am hoping someone who knows Volve engines will be kind enough to reply...

Last week I had to have our 1997 850 GLT wagon towed to the shop because it started riding rough, and the check engine light came on, and then after I pulled over, the car would not start. Eventually, it did start, but blue smoke came out of the tailpipe and there was a heavy smell of gasoline. Note that I had filled up with 89 octane Chervron gas 30 minutes prior to problems.

The shop diagnosed a stuck open fuel injector, and put the part on order. When the injector finally was put in (a week later, as the part was back ordered), the shop claimed the car was making a ticking noise - probably caused by a bent valve (which supposedly occurred when too much fuel was let in and could not be compressed). Makes sense. My questions are these - 1) Are problems with fuel injectors for this model common? and 2) Other than this supposedly bent valve, what other engine damage could my car have sustained as a result of the stuck open injector?

Is this type of repair covered under warranty?

My email address in eackerman14@comcast.net
