Battery charging with speedo cluster removed 850 1994

The Odometer on my car has broken, With the help of Bay 13 I have been able to remove the full instrament cluster. The repair people will require the cluster for a few days. I know that the car drives ok with it removed but I have been told that without the cluster in place the battery will not charge. Is this true. Many thanks
