My 2001 XC70 is 2 years old now and has 25000 miles on it. Great car with few problems. Recently it has become very noisy while driving. Thought it was the tires as I was sounding more like a truck with off road tires the the $40k car it is suppose to be. Was considering new tires but with only a year left on the lease, I figured I'd live with the noise. Then, my wife ran over a nail and a tire needed replacing. The cost at the dealer was $175 per tire(Pirelli Scorpion S/T) and it would need 2 because of the AWD system being overly sensitive to different circumferences. I ended up replacing all 4 tires with the Goodyear Regatta 2s, an all season touring tire rated very well and suppose to be very quiet. Oh well, the noise is still there and getting louder. The tire dealer test drove the car and said the noise is due to rear bearings going bad, not the tires. Appointment Tuesday with the dealer to check the bearinga and replace if needed. Anyone else have similar problems? Seems that this is strange as I only have 25000 miles. Thanks guys.
