850 vs. V70 ride 850

I have a 1996 850 Turbo Wagon w/ 75,000 kms and I experience the same hard ride that many complain about here. My Dad just bought a new V70 T5 wagon and i had the opportunity to drive it today. What a difference! The V70 has a much softer ride. I'm wondering what Volvo did so differently from the 850? Anyone know?
