STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL 850 1996

Hello, anyone who's read my recent posts knows I'm about to embark upon evaporator renewal.

So why a post about 'steering wheel removal'?

Read through Haynes, and it says.............disconnect battery, remove air bag from steering wheel, etc, etc, BUT on replacement - re-attach air bag etc, THEN, with battery still disconnected, turn on ignition to position 2, and THEN RECONNECT BATTERY'

Seem odd to me, I have removed drivers airbag before (on Peugoet), just disconnected battery, air bag off, did job, air bag back, reconnect battery.

Seems like strange procedure - I don't want SRS light coming on and need Volvo to have to re-set.

Any ideas?

K

ps - can I easily remove my SC-801 radio without special tools - looks like the one where the flat metal tools slip between radio and console

pps - while i'm here, a friend of mine has an 855 T5 - when he starts it, engine revs to arround 2,000 rpm, then drops after a few seconds and he says hesitant to rev?!?
