I just bought a certified used 2001 Volvo S40 about three months ago. I've gotten one oil change since buying it and that was at the actual dealer. Just yesterday I took my car in to get it's 30,000 maintenance service when they informed that when they went to replace the air filter there was none there to begin with and that I also had an oil leak. Well I have a few questions concerning this problem. Most importantly, what kind of damage has the non existent air filter done to my car? So far there is nothing noticable but I'm positive that it has worn the engine down. I'm really not sure how successful I will be but wanted advice on how I should actually approach the dealership. I think that I should be compensated in some way or at least have an extended warranty? Any suggestions? I'm also afraid that I have bought a lemon. So far it has had starter problems where it just wouldnt turn over at all and also it stalled randomly a few times. (automatic transmission). It also has had it's fair share of transmission problems where when I brake the transmission will jerk, not catch.... something alone those lines. I'm not very knowledgable with cars so I would appreciate any information or advice. Thanks
