T5-R vs. Turbo 850 1995

Hello all, I am looking into either a T5-R or a Turbo 850. I know that the R is of a more sporty nature, although it does not come with a 5 spd. option. Does the R come with the side airbags that the Turbo comes with? Is it a better idea to buy a Turbo model and get the chip from IPD? And one last question, are there any known problems with the differencial or other parts of the drivetrain? Any help would be appreciated!
