What's the difference between a 760/850/960???

I'm looking to buy a roadtrip car and I have my heart set on a wagon. I drove a decent 850 today and liked it, so now I'm wondering about all the other models. I don't know anything about Volvos which leaves me with the question, what's the difference between all the model numbers? They look more or less the same, seem to have the same engines and options for the most part too. So what's the difference?

For simplicity's sake, lets just say 1994 model year.
