Synthetic oil 850 1996

I have a 1996 850 w\ 80,000 miles on it ,non turbo sedan.
I run10-30 mobil one in it, I change it every 5,000 miles,which could take 6 months is this interval ok? I heard on the radio the other day that regardless of synthetic or not oil should be changedevery 3,000 miles or 4 months.
I do not think this person that said it knows volvo.
Please advise
