Check Engine Light On; Car Starts More Slowly....Help?!? 850 1995

The check engine light started coming on in the past day or two. What I notice is that when I start the car, it takes longer to start. Prior to this happening, the engine cranked right away. Would a battery, or starter, or alternator failure cause the check engine light to come on? The light stays on all the time now. I always thought the check engine light coming on was emmissions-related.

Any clues??
