best rig 850 or XC? 850 1997

I am considering buying one of two rigs: a 1997 850 GLT wagon with 60,000 miles ($16,000) or a 1998 XC AWD with 40,000 miles ($22,000). Both rigs are automatics, being sold by private sellers and are in excellent condition. I live in snow country. I am wondering if spending an extra $6,000 for the XC gives me that much more vehicle than the 850 GLT? If it were your money, what would you do?
