Best engine choice for an 850 850

I'm looking for a "Brick" in the early 90's so far my choices have been the 700, 900 and 850 series. I live in eastern NC, by the way if you have something interesting.

In the 850 cars what's the best choice for the best "get up and go"? How does the car perform with the 5 cylinder 20 valve engine as compared to the stock 4 in the earlier cars? What other choices are available? The other series cars I have driven with the stock 4 are rather anemic when you stomp it!
