High pitched whining/whistling sound 850 1994

I have a non-turbo 1994 850 and lately I've been hearing a very high pitched sound when I turn the engine on. It's there whether or not the car is moving, fan or A/C on or off. Could it be a leaking vacuum hose? If so, where are these hoses located and how do I detect a leaking hose? The sound seems to be coming from the engine area and not the belts.
