weird sound when braking 850 1997

Hi all- starting last friday, a weird "howling or boat-horn" sound has been coming from my front brakes. It only lasted a few stops then went away. It's not my usual brake screeching(you know, the school-bus sound) that I get occasionaly. This is a low muffled type sound. It happened after i was parked for 3-4 hours.
Could it be the cold brakes??? This never happened b/4; and I park for days between driving sometimes. No lights or anything on the info. center!
Anyhow experience this or similar??? What could be causes or reasons?? TIA for all help, BD
