Top speed of the 2.4 140 HP S60

2.4 MT 140 HP 2001

Today on the Autobahn

Conditions:

Tire pressure: 2.75 bar (cold)
Airco: Off
STC: Off
Wife: Off

Temperature: 12 degC, sunny, dry air.

With slight front/cross wind: 217 km/h on speedometer.

With slight back/cross wind: 223 km/h on speedometer = 209 on Radio display @ about 5200 rpm
And then the speed limiter comes in. You clearly can feel it: Power is abruptly reduced.

So in conclusion: Also the 2.4 140 HP is rpm limited in 5th gear (or speed limited).

What I totally don't understand is the official specification of maximum power (140 HP) @ 4500 rpm. Moreover, at higher rpm power is dropping steeply according to the official power curve.
My experience: At 4500 rpm the car is doing 195 km/h on the speedometer (about 185 km/h on the radio display) and power is still increasing with rpm. Top power for 140 HP is reached at about 5000 rpm.

So, is the rev meter not correct or what the .. has been programmed in that ECU??

Who can solve this descrepancy??

Greetings,

Dutchman
