Running speaker wire to the front doors

Has anyone run their own wire through the front doors to the dash? I am replacing the factory speakers with 5.25" Polk EX components, and I would like to avoid cutting the wire harness. I am planning on using flat speaker wire to make the job easier. Are their any tricks to running the wires through the door jam?
