Just a note about my experience the other day on fixing a electric locking motor on my 850 wagon. Pulled out the tailgate latch with locking motor. Very easy.
Unscrewed and pulled off the lock motor assembly (sealed plastic box) from the latch assembly. Opened the sealed plastic box with a razor blade and screwdriver. Inside is what looks like a cheap 12vdc motor (hobby motor variety), some nylon gears and switch contacts.
The two wires going to the motor armature was showing an open circuit with my multimeter. I opened the motor cleaned the commutator with 220 grit sandpaper, put everything back together. I resealed the plastic box with crazy glue. Lock works like new. Saved some bucks.
