Late 850 or Early S70?

Flipping through some of the threads here has indicated to me that the 850 can be very expensive to maintain.

Has Volvo improved at all with the S70?

I'm thinking of switching up my Corolla for one of these models and am worried about maintenance costs comparitavely.

Thanks for everyone's advice so far.
