Crankcase pressure and oil leaks 850 1993

All of a sudden I have multiple oil leaks. Crankcase pressure seems very high when I remove the oil filler cap. Pressure is gone after disconnecting the hose to the flame trap. Does this indicate its time for a new flame trap? I'm not real clear on what the flame trap does. Will it be a problem if I drive the car with the hose disconnected until I get a new flame trap? Thanks
