Heater/AC Fan Noisy When Cold 850 1996

The heater/AC fan in my '96 850 wagon makes a racket when it is cold (<30 F). Are the bearings on the way out, or is it the bearing lubricant that gets thick at low temps ? Is it hard to get to the fan ?
