pollen filter 850

Much to my surprise I found no pollen filter and or screen
covering the intake area for my ac/heat blower in my 97 850
wagon.

I peeled back the area where it should be.

Is this bad?? will stuff to get into the heating/ac system and make it fail??

can I order a new one and install with any trouble.
