Rear View Mirror is loose 850

My 16 year old son's friend through a football into the car and nailed the rear view mirrow. It's hanging loosely in the ceiling and bounces whenever you go over bumps.

I can wiggle it out of the ceiling holder and can see that there's a screw that must have been holding it in, but we can't loosen the screw at all! And we just can't figure out how to get it back in there tightly. Anyone have any ideas?
