1999 V70 XC. Needed a harmonic thing in or near the rear diff for a whining noise. Now they say it needs a Viscous Coupling. This is about AUD5,000 over here in Oz. Volvo have offered 50%. This is my wife's car and has 53,000 kilometres, about 33,000 miles, and it was a Volvo exec driven car for 16,000 kilometres. I drive a 99 S80, with only 38,000 kilometres. We had an 850 10 valve before that and a Subaru AWD before that. I also drive a Porsche 928 87 S4 in mint condition with 140,000 kilometres on it. No probs with it. Does anyone have any stats for these viscous coupling things going. My wife is tiny and drives very carefully. V70 XC has been fully maintained by Volvo dealer. I am payying nothing, these were 80,000 AUD here, lots of tax !! All together vwe have spent about 260,000AUD on Volvo's. I have been communicating with Hans-Olov Olsson, CEO of Volvo. he is too busy to speak with customers. Such arrogance. By the way, can someone tell me where this coupling is and what it really does. But, stats on their failure is what I am seeking. Thanks all, a great forum. It is sad that I will not be here long, as I will not buy another Volvo so long as my proverbial points down, other than of course a couple of solid 240's for my two son's first cars to practice on the traffic on.
Cheers
