When do one replace water pump? 850 1994

Hi,
I oftern heard people with Audis and Hondas replace their water pump when they replace timing belts. I've never heard of people doing it with their 850s. Is this something that just does not fail easily on our cars?
Anyone had to replace them? If so at what mileage?
