Add Trans filter: Good idea? 850 1993

Is it a good idea to put a filter through the transmission line? If it is, how come Volvo did not put one in, in the first place? How much it is going to impede the fluid flow? Can the pump handle that? How often should one replace it?

Lary P, on this board, mentioned it. Is it one size fits all? Should I get the one for power steering filter, to fit right?
