TRACS & ABS lights on - intermittantly 850 1997

The TRACS and ABS warning lights illuminate occasionally. A repair center said the problem was due to a faulty ECU which could be replaced for about $600. Can anybody validate that diagnosis? Or offer a better (cheaper) remedy?
