HELP! Evaporator Changeout Questions! 850

I started the gawd-awful task of changing out the evaporator this morning on my 93 850. I'm down to the white hvac box. Couple of questions: How do I release the crimped-on clamps for the evap/ac line connections at the firewall? How do you re-install the same? I have the box loose but it seems bound up by something. Anything I might be missing? What about the heater core hoses. Do I need to disconnect them at the motor? I don't want to break the plastic elbows inside and I'm going to replace the thermostat anyway so draining/flushing the system isn't a problem. Just need to know if this is thepoint to drain coolant. Car is a USA model.
