air pump check valve V70-XC70

Hi, currently the air pump and check valve have no problems in my '98 v70 xc but I'm going to be doing a tune up on the car soon and was wondering if there is a way to inspect and clean the check valve. My understanding is that these valves can stick causing humid exaust to fill the air pump with water and cause failure. Has anyone replaced or inspected their check valve for residue problems etc. ? Thought it might be worth a try to prevent a failure and expensive parts. Any tips or comments would be great! ~Gerald
