Ignition switch intermittant 850 1993

I'm getting an intermittant start signal when turing the ignition switch.

Occationally everything goes dead when the key is turned to the start position. So far, I have been able to start the car by returning the key to stop and going back to start. When the ignition works, it starts up just like there was never a problem.

So, is it likely electical or mechanical?
