Rear Brake Shims - How to install? 850

I bought a set of shims for my '95 Volvo 850 in hope to fix brake shudder. Part #272272
There are 4 thin metal plates, so I assume one for each pad, placed between the pad and the caliper piston. But these shims have a pointer (arrow) stamped, it can point UP or DOWN when installed. So, what way? I hope someone knows.
