'Clicking' Idler.....What should I do? 850

I feared the worst thinking the clicking sound from my engine compartment might be a worn wrist pin or rod bearing. This morning i went to my favorite medical supply store (advance auto) and bought a mechanics stethescope. The first place i probed was the oil pan...no clicking. Then the alternator...nothing. The ac/pump, the valve cover..nothing, nothing. Then i placed the probe on the idler arm and there was the click. I could even feel the click as if the idler it self was moving as the belt passed. So now i'm at the next step where I treat my diagnosis. Do i replace the belt? or the idler? Has anyone else had this problem?BTW..I don't think there's anything funnier-looking than guy under the hood listening to his engine with a stethescope. As useful as it was I had to laugh at myself.
