Who's got bragging rights for great fuel economy? With apologies to those of you outside the US for our silly units, I'm getting about 23 miles to the gallon with my new-to-me non-turbo 5-speed wagon. City and highway mix; lots of WOT. What's the optimal speed on the highway for the absolute best economy? I kinda wish I had a sixth gear on this car.
Also, I'm a little confused on fuel octane requirements. The NA has kind of a high CR at 10.5, and I'm not sure if it needs anything better than the cheapest, 87-octane stuff. The owner's manual, which ambiguously covers both NA and turbo engines, talks about "RON" and "AKI" figures (more confusing units); look, I just wanna know what button to push at the pump. I believe the NA motor has at least one knock sensor; does this come into play when using the regular octane fuel? Can I reasonably expect to develop more power with the higher octanes?
TIA,
Steve-o
