A/C noise 850

I have a 1994 850 sedan, it it has a whining noise while running the A/C. I hear it the most when idling at a stop light. It comes and goes, and I assume it goes away when the compressor kicks in and out. It is not a loud roaring noise, and it it not high pitched. It also doesn't change when I accelerate either. It is almost like a fan noise more than a compressor bearing. Any Ideas?, thanks
