three days after purchasing 98 v70 xc a ticking noise started in engine bay,assuming it to be hydrolic tappets I booked it in to volvo dealer to be fixed ,they agreed that tappets were the answer but wanted £580 to change after stinging me for 100,000 service costing £278 that I didn't need as they had negected to tell me that the car had a service at 98,000 six months previous.
having purchased the tappets & seals I am now doubtful that that is the problem
as the noise is not constant through the rev range, noisy at tickover& 2500/3000 revs but smooths out above that.can anyone suggest any other probable causes for this noise as I am reluctant to waste any more money & still have problems.thanks
