sc-816 radio mysteriously stopped V70-XC70

I have a 98 v70 with the sc-816 radio. One day driving I was listening to a CD and I paused it for about 15 seconds. When I unpaused the CD, the display came back, but no sound. I replaced both audio system fuses and entered the code, still no sound. The dealer told me he has never seen one of these have a display but not produce sound. Who knows?
I was wondering if anyone else had seen this, if so what was the cause.
