Need some help with 850 GLT Wagon (1997) 850 1997

We're shopping for a new (used) car and found a 1997 850 GLT Wagon today with 99K miles for $7400.

We thought it was a great deal, did not yet test it drive because the dealer had already closed. We're seriously thinking about buying it, especially for the safety ratings Volvo usually gets. It seems to be a great car, leather interior, very roomy and just what we'd like.

Now that I'm doing my Internet research, it seems as if the 850 GLT Wagons have had a lot of transmission and other problems? Hard to maintain and expensive to fix?

PLEASE let me know your honest opinions on these cars, especially this GLT wagon if you have any experience or knowledge.
We need a reliable car and don't have the money to constantly pay for repairs of several hundred dollars.

We have a 1996 Jetta GLS that has had some problems that I found described on the Internet right after we bought it, and I don't want to make the same mistake twice...

I understand most of the people on this board are Volvo lovers so maybe I'm in the wrong spot for a objective opinion, but I'd guess you are also the most knowledgeable.

Thank you so much for your help!!!
