How to fix stripped odometer gear? 850

I had no idea that if i pressed the trip-meter reset switch while the car was in motion that it would strip the gear on my odometer and render it useless.

However, it is too late now. I broke it. (The BMW never cared if i reset it while moving....grr). Ok... does anyone know of any tech articles online that outline the procedure to fix it? Are parts available for this or must i get an entirely new odometer? I've seen the bay 13 cluster removal article but that's the fullest extent of my knowledge on this topic.

Once I have fixed this, I am going to break the trip meter reset tab off and leave it in the ashtray. That way neither I nor any other people who drive my car will ever destroy the odometer once again.
