OK, I've seen this around, but a quick search hasn't pulled anything up.
I managed to get the (glued) top off the ABS module without damaging anything. Once opened, I was hoping to see some obvious cracks or cold solder joints, like around the plug pins, but no such luck.
So, for those who actually have repaired one of these, have we narrowed in on a particular problem area on the board? I have removed much of the silicon goo and can't see any really good candidates for repair.
BTW, doesn't it seem as if this layer of silicon goo forms an insulated layer? Why the goo instead of the circuit board paint I normally see on boards built for automotive apps? (Cracks in paint or some other reason?)
