Hello, Im new to here but have been in white volvo wagons all my life, i grew up riding in a 71 145s wagon as long as i can remember and then my parents got a 80 240 wagon that we still have. Man did i abuse that 240 in high school, but shes still ticking. Since then i put about 300000 miles on a honda civic and currently am stuck with a 71 MGB-GT as my primary ride. I am now strongly considering 2 volvo 850's for my next car, its been several years, but im coming home. :) 850# 1 seems like a solid deal, 95 850 GLT, silver, 71k miles on her, for about 4 grand. Now 850 #2 may be a steal, shes a 94 green turbo sedan with 120k, but theres a catch. The drivetrain and the body are more or less in excellent order, but the owner drove the car thru a field at speed somehow, i didnt ask, but both airbags were deployed. Ive searched through the fourms and found threads concerning airbag replacements and their prohibitive cost. Im thinking that if i acquire this car i will get a PS airbag cover for $30 and install it myself, and replace the steering wheel with a nice momo unit. I know about the potential saftey issues without airbags, but ive been driving a 71 MG for the last 2 years, anything will feel safer. Now the 850 turbo runs great, the only probs are the airbags, an oil leak which i am 99% sure is the flame trap prob ive read lots of good info about here, i dont think its leaking from the rear main seal yet BTW. And it needs an alignment or possibly minor front end work, things looked in fairly good order under the front. Its an 850 turbo in essence with no airbags, 120k miles, a perfect body too. I can pick it up for a grand, what do yall think? estimating about $3 grand if i want to get it done right with the airbags, i think it may be a good deal even so. If not, the airbags really dont bug me, what do you think? Any advice will be considered. Tomorrow i will get the VIN # off the car and call a volvo service rep to see if i can look at the cars service records, if its not a lemon with lots of probs, i think i'll pick it up, even if i never insure and drive it i think i can turn a profit parting it out. Oh i consider myself a decent mechanic also, i have a 32 year old MG that i drive every day to prove it LOL
