High mileage lasting cars? 850

I'm looking for a good car to use as a daily driver and also for a project.
I am presently seeking a 86+ 240 (most likely) but I also like 850's.
My price range is pretty low right now being a college kid but I wonder if you all think that a cheap 850 would be a lasting car or a lemon?
My friend bought one recently w/ 100K+ and it seems to run strong, even as well as our 65K mile 96.
Do they tend to have the longevity or the older models?
