Becoming impatient w/ check engine light. 850 1995

Hi-

I'm fairly new to this forum. I've owned 2 240's prior to purchasing my 1995 850 Turbo w/72,000 miles a couple months ago. Since, I've had a tough time with the check engine light coming on. The light came on a couple weeks after purchasing it. I took it to my mechanic. He replaced the mass air flow sensor and fixed a small vacuum leak. Of course he recommended that I get the timing belt changed, but I was short on cash. So, I planned on bringing it in next oil change (75k miles). He said in all probability that should be fine, but two not go any longer than that. A few days went by and the check engine light came on again. I took it back to my mechanic, and he said that he fixed another well hidden vacuum leak. A week went by and the check engine light has come back on again. I've noticed that when I accelerate at a moderate rate, I can feel a small fluctuation in power; although it's subtle, it is noticeable. I'm not at all a mechanic, and I'm becoming a little frustrated. My mechanic has a great reputation and has been working on Volvo's for 25 years. Does anybody have any suggestions of what the cause of the problem might be? Thanks in advance.
