Black coolant S40-V40

I just flushed and changed the original Volvo coolant in my 2001 S40 (about 22K miles). The stuff that came out of the bottom of the radiator was pretty much black. I'm guessing that its aluminum corrosion deposits, but would like any insight anyone has. So much for the manual saying that the coolant is permanent.
