Rotor and Cap very worn! 850

Dear All

I just pulled off my Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm to find them very 'burnt'.

They were put on new 6000 miles ago and the car still runs well.

What causes the little contacts inside the cap to burn and pit so much. They are very rough to touch, I don;t want to replace them so soon until I can stop them wearing out so quickly.

Any ideas
