Brought my 850 wagon to a non Volvo mechanic to replace the shocks. They were replaced with aftermarket shocks. Upon driving to Maine, I could here a noise in the back - sounded like the muffler hitting the floorboards. We reached our destination. Took a look in the back and the left shock absorber had broken at the top (I think what is knwo as the rear mount). The top nut came clean off, couldn't find it. The other nut had taken a small 1/2 inch wide triangle piece off the frame along with the bolt. Why did this happen? Now I must have a body shop weld it back on. The shop told me that it was because of the aftermarket shock absorberand that it was not the right one for the car, purchased at a Foriegn Auto store. I have seen people sell aftermarket items for Volvos. Should I not purchase aftermarket parts?
