air recicling 850 1994

My question regards the air circulation in the interior of my 850: if the "recycling" key is "on", there should be NO air absorbing through the air intake section (right at the base of the front windshield)???? Is it possible that other cars´ exhaust can get into the car trough a hole somewhere in the car body? I´m getting other cars´ exhaust into my car and it is becoming annoying. The recycling mechanism is supposed to be working OK. Thanks for your help.
